I, (Name), promise to love you, (Name), in good times and bad, in sickness and in health. I promise to be patient and understanding. I promise to listen to you and support you at all times. I will love you and honour you all the days of my life and I ask everyone present to witness that I, (Name), take you, (Name), as my wedded wife (husband).
The feeling hit me the moment we made eye contact in class. It was so immediate and powerful—far deeper and inexplicably beyond any calculation of time and place. You don’t describe a feeling like that. You also can’t replicate it or force it. You just let it flow in and around you. You go where it takes you.
I offer you the autumn of my life, brisk and vibrant. I promise to be a companion worthy of your precious friendship. I pledge to you compassion in good times and bad, encouragement in sickness and health. It is my intent that our life together include our large circle of friends and loving families. While we cherish the memories of our individual pasts, we will create new experiences and memories in our new life together.
With great joy I pledged my love and commitment to you on our wedding day. But a loving relationship does not exist in a vacuum. Our family and friends first showed us how to love, helped us grow, and supported us when we found each other. I hope they will continue to love and support us as we love and support them. Therefore, I am delighted today, in the presence of these witnesses, to reaffirm my commitment to you, and once again, to promise to love you, honour you, and comfort you, in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, for better and for worse, as long as we both shall live.
